After continuously being frustrated with your thermostat because you can’t make it a comfortable temperature, it may be time to think of other options- like a Nest thermostat. It may be tiny, but the impact Nest’s smart thermostats will have on your home will be much bigger than you could have ever expected. Its small size allows it to sit on your wall in a discrete and aesthetic way that your clunky programmable thermostat could never do.
But it’s not just a pretty face- a Nest thermostat also makes it easier to save energy in your home, which is a big plus considering your thermostat is half your energy bill. As opposed to programmable thermostats, which aren’t proven to really preserve energy and are very limited in the number of changes you can actually make, Nest Thermostats learn from you what your ideal temperature is. All you do is adjust it like a regular thermostat for the first week so it gets a sense of what temperature you prefer your house to be at. This adjusting also helps it to create a schedule for you, ensuring that it does not spend more time warming or cooling your house than needed, and thus save more energy, which helps not only the planet but your energy bill as well. In addition to this, the thermostat will learn how your home heats and cools itself, which will allow it to customize itself even more for your household since no two houses are the same.
Once it has all of this information, the thermostat will program itself so that you won’t have to bother messing with it to get the right temperature- it will just already be the perfect temperature for you and your house. Of course, schedules and preferences change and you may find yourself having to change the temperature anyway. Luckily, the Nest app allows you to control the temperature on your thermostat from anywhere, so you don’t have to manually adjust the thermostat- meaning you can continue bingeing that show on Netflix without burning to a crisp.
Nest offers two different types of thermostats- Nest Learning Thermostat and Nest Thermostat E- as well as an accessory for your Nest thermostat- Nest Temperature Sensor. The Nest Learning Thermostat and the Nest Thermostat E have many similarities, except the Nest Learning Thermostat is an older model that has a much more profound display and only the 3rd gen model is compatible with the Nest Temperature Sensor. Meanwhile, the Nest Thermostat E is a newer model that has a more subtle design and any model is compatible with the Nest Temperature Sensor. When you connect your Nest thermostat to a Nest Temperature Sensor, you are able to let your thermostat know what temperature you want each room to be and at what time, and the Sensor will make the room it’s in the specific temperature you’ve programmed it to be. This way, rooms that may not normally feel the heat from the thermostat (or may feel too much of it), can be adjusted to a temperature that ensures a comfortable environment for anyone in that room.
